The app for independent voices

If you’ll allow it, I’d like to do a little Substack appreciation post.

I started food blogging almost nine years ago, and have always posted my recipes to my website for free. I’m proud of this, but when you sustain a website on ad revenue, you’re always at the mercy of the google gods. It’s complicated, but long story short, I have to write recipes that people are searching google for rather than recipes I actually love to make all the time.

When I started my Substack, just over a year ago, I rediscovered a love of recipe writing that I thought I’d completely lost. The freedom of a reader supported newsletter means I can finally publish the recipes I really care about (and hopefully you do too!) I genuinely can’t believe people value my work enough to pay for it and I promise I don’t take a single subscription for granted. 🙏🏼

I somehow missed my Substack one year anniversary, so as a belated celebration, here are my favourite recipes from this year, which you can find in my back catalog.

  1. Butter bean and potato salad

  2. Aperol spritz cake

  3. Shaved tofu club sandwich

  4. Pumpkin cinnamon rolls

  5. Spicy pulled mushroom noodles

  6. Maple pumpkin loaf
