It’s been such a pleasure working with Olivia this year. She embodies the spirit of the Goyen Literacy Fellowship as well as anyone I’ve ever worked with. She is constantly tinkering with her own practice, experimenting with her instruction, and carefully and strategically sharing her work and data with her colleagues, as they begin to shift their own practice.

we’re looking at writing scores, and I’m sharing my work with ThinkSRSD. I’m currently the only teacher in our district using it, so I’m showing colleagues the process, the impact, and the results. Teachers can observe my classroom, see the strategies in action, and decide whether to try them. It’s not a mandate—everyone still chooses what works for their students—but over time, seeing data and student growth helps people recognize the value of evidence-based practices.
