On Feb. 19 Microsoft announced a major breakthrough in creating a functional topological qubit. But before we begin clapping and jumping up and down we have to consider—is it worth the hype?

YES, they proposed an exciting design for achieving a practical quantum computer in a timely fashion, but

NO, the publication only reports intermediate progress without real evidence of a topological qubit.
