I’ve been teaching Calculus and Physics in the NYC public high schools for 20 years. I have amazing students. They’re still getting into the top colleges. But they can’t afford to attend because there’s no financial aid this year. The pattern is clear and shocking. Why?

International students pay sticker price. They subsidize our education system. And ICE has kicked them out. Even while our executive branch has drained federal funding for research.

My kids will still be fine because they are impressive and our NY state schools are still great and generous.

But make no mistake, your decent state school is no longer a “safety”. And less money for education will hit the middle class the hardest.

So if you know any depressed High School Seniors like I do, let them know it is not them. They deserve better.
