Artemis II’s commander Reid Wiseman's wife was Carroll Taylor Wiseman, who passed away on May 17, 2020, at age 46 following a five-year battle with cancer. She was a dedicated pediatric nurse practitioner and neonatal intensive care unit nurse. Together, they had two daughters, whom Reid has been raising as a single father.

As Artemis II broke Apollo 13’s record as the longest distance humans have travelled from Earth, Wiseman announced they would be naming a crater on the Moon “Carroll,” after his wife. Here, the crew can be seen embracing Wiseman in support after the announcement.
