It’s been years since I was in an office, managing writers and editors and art directors, but I’m a heavy AI user for various types of research and I retain two convictions: 1) it’s an incredible tool and 2) its tendency to confabulate—because it sometimes cannot tell valid data from crap data—is a continuing and often amusing feature. It needs human administration or it wanders off into a wilderness of bullshit. It is like a brilliant bus sometimes careless or drunk research assistant. Meanwhile, the AI companies are charging more for “credits.” The Golden Age of AI for home users is already starting to fade…
