DENIM & LEATHER - I started customizing my denim jackets when I was 12, eventually I attained semi-mythical status in how elaborate & over the top my jacket was. During the peak years, I would cannibalize old jackets for spikes, studs, even patches, leaving the old jacket like a corpse, picked over by vultures. It was always about the moment, tomorrow was/is never guaranteed & I lived like that for a long time. There is something very freeing & essentially human about customizing things… especially clothing, but really it’s customizing anything & everything. In the moment you Are lessening it’s value, but in the long run you are emphasizing a unique moment in history that can never be replicated. That’s important. It’s just one of the many things that makes us stand out.
