It’s about the Siberian tiger. Ever notice how their coat is this loud orange and black design, that doesn’t seem like it would blend in and help them hide?

That’s because we aren’t their target audience.

Their camouflage is designed to work only against their primary preys, like deer, who see them like this (below).

Humans are trichromats, meaning we have three types of photoreceptors (red, green, blue).The tiger’s prey (deer and boar species) are typically dichromats that struggle to see reds and oranges, which will often appear as a dark grey, brown, or green color.

So, while we see tigers with ease (thankfully), other species have quite a time spotting them.

Nature is incredible.
