Part 7: From Free Privacy Tools to a Full Product

DoxxScore didn't come out of nowhere.

Before I started building it, I’d already been creating smaller privacy tools at Secrets of Privacy.

Things like a Username Generator (for creating privacy-focused usernames that don't reveal your identity) and a Fake Data Generator (for generating realistic but fake personal info you can use when sites demand your details).

You can check them out at tools.secretsofprivacy.….

They were simple, focused utilities: free, running entirely in your browser, no data ever transmitted. The kind of thing where someone has a specific privacy need and we built a quick tool to solve it.

Building those taught me a few things:

  1. People want to take action on their privacy, but they don't know where to start. The tools I built kept pointing back to the same underlying problem, which is people didn't have a clear picture of their overall exposure.

  2. Small tools get used, but they don't change behavior. Someone might check one thing, feel briefly alarmed, and then move on. What was missing was a comprehensive assessment that connected the dots.

  3. The gap between "I should care about privacy" and "Here's exactly what I need to do" is where most people get stuck. DoxxScan is my attempt to bridge that gap.

Instead of a dozen small tools, one assessment gives you the full picture, with a personalized action plan.

The earlier tools allowed me to get my feet wet, setting things up nicely for the DoxxScore go live in a few weeks.
