did some digging and one of the problems is everyone hits the heart/like button, but Substack has drastically reduced the benefit of doing that. Which makes sense because it’s a low effort action.

Restack and comments are waaaay more impactful

Takeaway: likes are appreciated, but they don’t signal much to the Substack algo and won’t boost your note much. It’s much better if your readers can take a few extra seconds and engage more with the post by leaving a comment or restacking.

we’re all in a hurry, so that may be tough. Gentle, periodic nudges are probably the way.

Could be user error of course, but Substack notes has gone from an essential growth engine to a near waste of time and effort. The last few months have been brutal for engagement and newsletter growth.

Hoping Substack figures this out soon, before Notes becomes irrelevant.
