Robert Brandom is so far as I can judge the greatest philosopher of our age, in the slightly phony technical sense that the discipline values. (He was Rorty’s star pupil and writes in a much more technical, formal logical-mathematical style than his master.)

Brandom puts all his seminars online and I always follow, you can take classes from the greatest philosopher in America for free! (From Strauss, Foucault or Heidegger you had to wait a long time to get this shit.) Most recently on Frege. He and Pistelli are broadcasting wisdom from Pittsburgh.

Anyway he was giving a seminar on Hegel and he said in passing that he used to believe with Diderot that freedom will arrive when the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. After encountering Hegel, Brandom changed his mind: just as Molière’s Bourgeois Gentleman had always been speaking prose, Brandom realized that for his whole life he’d been a liberal Protestant without knowing it.
