5 things Inclusion Leads can do to stay regulated during a crisis-heavy day 👇
1️⃣ Two protected breaks, non-negotiable. Not scrolling in the staffroom. Outside. Quiet. No interruptions. 10–15 minutes to let your nervous system reset before it's called on again.
2️⃣ Box breathing before walking in. Inhale 4. Hold 4. Exhale 4. Hold 4. Takes 60 seconds. Changes your physiological state before you even open the door.
3️⃣ Cold water on your wrists. Simple vagal nerve stimulator. Interrupts the stress response quickly. Genuinely works.
4️⃣ A grounding phrase you return to. Something brief and personal. "I am calm. I am capable. This child needs me steady." Sounds small. Isn't.
5️⃣ A post-crisis pause before making calls or writing notes. Ask yourself: Am I calm enough to represent this situation accurately and fairly? If the answer is no, take five more minutes. The phone call can wait.
These aren't wellness extras. They're how you do the job well.
