📸 Sony’s Image Sensor Revolution — Powered by TSMC

SemiVision : Sony holds a dominant 53% global market share in image sensors, and a key enabler behind this success is TSMC. The logic semiconductors used in Sony’s stacked CMOS sensors are primarily manufactured by TSMC, making Sony the chipmaker’s largest customer in Japan.

The evolution from 2-layer to 3-layer stacking—combining pixel, logic, and memory layers—allows for greater functionality, speed, and low-light performance in compact form factors. This technology is widely used in smartphones, autonomous driving, surveillance, and high-end cameras.
