🔴TSMC Kumamoto （JASM) Fab 2 officially begins main construction

The photo shows TSMC’s Kumamoto site, where the second fab (JASM Fab 2) is now under major construction, right next to the already operational Fab 1.

According to local reports, TSMC’s subsidiary in Japan signed a land-use agreement with Kumamoto Prefecture for the new facility, which will produce more advanced semiconductors than Fab 1 — targeting applications in AI and autonomous driving.

Operations are planned to begin by the end of 2027, though mass-production timing will depend on market demand. Local challenges such as traffic congestion and infrastructure strain have been noted, but the Japanese government continues to emphasize semiconductor self-reliance and ecosystem formation as national priorities.
