I think we need clarity about how an artwork is made so that we can make a choice. An audience member might not always be able to tell the difference, but that’s not the same as there being no difference to them. We get to care where ingredients come from in our food regardless of whether it “tastes the same”. I’ve heard Julia Whalen talk about this re:audiobooks using AI voices. Not everyone will care, but those who do conceptually prefer a human performance will buy those books if given the choice.
