On May 5 2026 Türkiye unveiled the YILDIRIMHAN intercontinental ballistic missile at the SAHA 2026 defence expo. Six thousand kilometre range. Mach 9 to 25. Four liquid-fuelled rocket engines. Defence Minister Yaşar Güler said it would be used without hesitation if necessary.

The unveiling occurred the day after Iran fired nineteen weapons at the United Arab Emirates, the same day Maersk transited a US-flagged carrier under Project Freedom, and three days after China issued its first blocking statute against United States sanctions in the history of the People’s Republic.

Whether YILDIRIMHAN is operational hardware or strategic signalling, the timing is the message.

A six thousand kilometre range from Turkish soil reaches every Iranian site struck during this war. It reaches Moscow. It reaches Algiers. It reaches western China.

Türkiye already operates a maritime customs architecture of equivalent treaty weight. The Bosphorus and Dardanelles have been governed under the 1936 Montreux Convention for ninety years. Turkish customs at Çanakkale predate Iranian customs at Sirik by centuries.

Iran has the Strait. Türkiye has the Bosphorus.

The customs houses are now both armed.
