I believe there is compelling evidence to suggest that Luke’s Theophilus is none other than the Jewish high priest mentioned by Josephus, and a number of scholars and Bible commentators are beginning to make this argument, which I discuss in the final addition to my Joanna article.

If this view is correct, it suggests an earlier date for Luke-Acts, since according to Josephus, Theophilus was no longer alive in the fall of 67 AD. In other words, both volumes must have been written by the mid-sixties at the latest. humbleskeptic.com/p/ret…
