The app for independent voices

Lately I’ve been noticing a shift in where I feel seen.

For a long time, I looked to my closest relationships for validation in a very human way. I wanted my inner life to be witnessed. That’s a lot to hold inside a few friendships.

Being on Substack has changed that for me. I feel connected to a wider community where my words land and are met with care. That kind of shared witnessing doesn’t replace intimacy, but it does ease the pressure I place on it.

As a result, my friendships feel more aligned. Lighter. Chosen rather than needed. I’ve never had many close friends, usually one or two at a time, and that still feels true. What’s different is the quality. There’s more honesty, more rhythm, less emotional labor.

Belonging doesn’t have to live in one place.

And friendship, for me now, is about meeting honestly where we are.
