My first planting of the season! Well, sort of. The bocking 14 comfrey cuttings that I ordered came too soon, as the ground here will still be frozen for another month. So I’ve planted them in pots and put them outside in a protected area with mulch over the top. These hardy ruffians should make it through until transplanting time, as they love the cold.

I’m really excited to harvest the comfrey leaves several times per year to “chop and drop” them among my garden beds for a nutrient-rich mulch, and to add to compost tea. I sought out this specific variety, as it’s sterile and non-invasive. I’m so excited to add this to the garden. And now I can almost believe that spring really will arrive sometime soon!
