Substack, and its tech engine, writer culture, and inherent commitment to readers, have made me astoundingly prolific. I’m putting together my poetry manuscript to send to my publishers, Hanging Loose Press. They published my first poetry book in 1992 and have published 7 other poetry books of mine since. Well, I just finished collecting all the poems I’ve published on Substack and have discovered that I’ve written over 400 pages of poems. 400 pages! I’d guess 5-10% of the poems are good enough for the book but we need to go through them all because I’m much harder on myself than any editor is. There might be a few gems that I’ll overlook. 400 pages! Holy shit! Thank you, Substack!
