Okay, I’ve been very hesitant to post this statistic because I’m gonna sound like an arrogant asshole. But I’ve communicated with the Substack folks and it does feel like it’s good promotion and publicity for this entire community—for all of Substack’s possibilities, yes, but also to refute all the skeptics, puritans, censors, and bitter traditionalists. Over the last 3 ½ years, I’ve posted nearly 400 poems that have received over 1.3 million total views. Yes, poems. Yes, 1.3 million. I’m very lucky that I had a large reading audience before Substack. I’ve sold a lot of terrestrial books. But Substack has given me a poetry audience (POETRY!) that is, frankly, epic in size. I need to make a T-shirt that says “This is Effing Substack.”
