BREAKING: It looks like Trump’s nominee for attorney general has brokered a deal with Cornyn and any other holdout Senators to issue a statement and formally rescind the order creating the Trump IRS fund.
Acting AG Todd Blanche has just made the following statement via X (Twitter):
“My team and I have met with committee members and Senators over the past several weeks and addressed any concerns or outstanding questions. We have enjoyed good faith discussions, and as a result issue the following order and update with regard to the May IRS settlement. The Department always welcomes and appreciates productive engagement with all members of Congress.”
All parties involved in curtailing Blanche's nomination were included in the brokering of this deal according to the statement, so this statement signals to other Republicans that the vote should continue this week for Blanche for AG and that Cornyn is on board. Blanche also posted this at 11:00 pm on a Sunday, so it looks like they took the weekend to haggle it out.
PROBLEM: Blanche fails to mention in his statement and/or declarations anything about Trump’s intent to appeal on Friday, and whether that case concerning the IRS fund and its legitimacy will move forward in the courts.
