One Study Shift That Changes Everything
Here’s one shift that will transform your Bible study:
Stop bringing your meaning to the text. Let the text bring its meaning to you.
That’s the difference between eisegesis and exegesis.
Eisegesis is when we read our opinions, preferences, and current emotions into the passage. We already have a conclusion, and we go looking for a verse to support it.
Exegesis does the opposite. It draws out what is actually there. It asks what God is saying in the passage before we decide what we want Him to say.
Instead of asking, “What does this mean for me?” ask, “What is God revealing about Himself here?” Because Scripture is first about Him. His character. His ways. His covenant.
When you anchor your study in who God is, application follows naturally. It becomes response instead of projection.
Depth begins when we stop trying to control the message and start listening for it.
Let the Word speak before you speak for it.
Remember, we’re not extra, we’re exegetical! 😉
