God told Moses to speak to the rock. Moses hit it instead. Water still came out. The miracle still happened. And Moses still didn't get to go to Canaan. Which means God can work through your disobedience and still hold you accountable for it simultaneously. These are not mutually exclusive. The water coming out was not God's endorsement of the method. We have been confusing results with approval for a very long time.
