Yes technological game-changers are ‘normal’ in history; but no, this one won’t necessarily go like the last one, which itself didn’t go like the one before. So maybe ‘normal’ is a bit meaningless here. There is no shortcut and no easy reassurance possible here really: we have to treat AI as sui generis and take the new risks it poses very seriously indeed.
