I've been an optimist about how AI will work with people, rather than replace people.
And at a roundtable lunch with a bunch of leaders at fund managers, I ended it with the same point. Just a few hours ago.
And so it's interesting to come back to read Jack Dorsey's piece titled "From Hierarchy to Intelligence".
Have a read. I think it throws up interesting ideas, of which I think these two sets are interesting.
One, how to structure a company in this new world, from both a real world and AI perspective.
1. Capabilities based on some primitives that can be used as building blocks.
2. World model . A company world model, and customer world model.
3. Intelligence layer that composes capabilities into solutions for specific customers at specific moments and delivers them.
4. Interfaces, least important but essential.
Two, the type of roles at work.
1. Individual contributors (ICs) who build and operate capabilities, the model, the intelligence layer, and the interfaces. Deep specialists and experts.
2. Directly Responsible Individuals (DRI) who own specific cross-cutting problems or opportunities and customer outcomes.
3. Player-coaches who combine building with developing people. They replace the traditional manager whose primary job was information routing.
I think it fits a specific type of business more than others. But still an interesting take on future of work.
