Notes

Being yourself is NOT a niche.

I know I won’t make many friends by saying this, but here’s the truth: Being yourself is necessary to stand out as a writer, but it’s NOT a replacement for knowing who your target audience is.

If you write for everybody, you write for nobody.

If someone’s telling you that you don’t need a niche and can write about anything you want because YOU are the niche, they’re lying to you because it’s what you WANT to hear.

And since it sounds good, you follow them, like their content, and buy their courses only to realize that being yourself is NOT enough to make money on the internet.

Readers aren’t stupid.

They want to know why they should trust you.

If you write about politics today, your pets tomorrow, and your workout routine the next day, you’re not giving me a clear reason to follow you.

Saying that “you don’t need a niche” is a new trend because most beginners don’t want a niche.

But here’s the challenge: You don’t make the rules.

If you want to grow your audience and make a full-time income by creating content, you have to understand how to capture and keep attention.

Because attention is money.

And nobody will pay you if you write about a gazillion different topics.

Platforms like Medium and Substack allow you to write about several topics without being too strict about a niche, but you still have the best chance of standing out when you’re focused on a key target audience.

Stop listening to the advice you want to hear just because it sounds easier.

Things that are worth achieving usually aren’t easy - that’s why most people don’t achieve them.
