Kroger Set to Return to Columbus, Georgia:

In a surprising twist of fate, I woke up to news this morning of Kroger making a return to Columbus. This will be the first time the chain has operated a store in Muscogee County since it closed its final two stores in 1973, ending a 22-year stint.

The new Kroger #11-727 will take residence in the North Columbus Crossing shopping center in the space previously home to Winn-Dixie. WD closed store #439 this past February as part of a market exit from Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Middle Georgia. It appears that Kroger intends to keep the existing Winn-Dixie space but details are still a bit murky.

This comes on the heels of news last week of Kroger proposing store #11-717 in Statesboro. This new Kroger is set to be built on Veterans Memorial Parkway near the new Publix.
