Carmen Giménez, executive director and publisher of Graywolf, in an interview:
“What does it look like when schools aren’t buying books because a teacher got fired for teaching it? What happens when—the academic sales are going to plummet. That is a guarantee. I think that’s also going to change the way we do our P&Ls, and think about our backlist, and think about— even, I think, how we print. Are we going to have to move to print-on-demand? Those questions arise. I think moving to more hand-selling books. We don’t rely on academic sales, but understanding that we’re going to have to reach these young people very directly, where they’re at, because they’re not going to stop needing or hungering for these books, they’re just not going to get them from their teachers”
