I never thought of that. My family is from Bangladesh and my mum still has the jewellery from her mother and her siblings. I’m pretty sure the jewellery box also belonged to her mother and it’s still taped together.

I thought it was just me being possessive of my jewellery: my first watch, my baby earrings, my first chain. I never really considered how much gold could mean to any woman, and not just myself.
