Happy Macabre Monday, all!

I wasn’t really sure what to write about today, especially because I already have something planned for tomorrow’s Jump Scare post. Buuuuut I figured I could maybe dive into the found footage trope because hey, why not?

I actually think the whole found footage/mockumentary style of horror is a neat idea. Obviously we have iconic films that used this to their advantage like Cannibal Holocaust, The Blair Witch Project, and Paranormal Activity. All films that came with controversy and absolutely scared the hell out of audiences when they were first released.

What’s interesting about this film style is that a lot of the horror comes from the camera. It’s sneakily mixing reality and fiction together, making you question what’s real and what’s not. Both Cannibal Holocaust and The Blair Witch Project are infamous in causing great concern amongst the public, with the former’s director going to trial over the “murders” of the cast members (all fake, obviously, but damn, that’s crazy).

Do you have any favorite found footage horror films?
