Oh please say it's story time again! đŸ€

Here's another page from "The Book of Magan."

I suppose it's not surprising that the cow plays such a significant role in Irish storytelling, just think of all that lovely Irish butter 😋

The Ulster cycle of Ireland's mythology holds one of the most widely known epic sagas of ancient Ireland, an TĂĄin BĂł CĂșailnge, or 'the Cattle Raid of Cooley'. It features at its heart The White Bull of Connacht and the Brown Bull of Ulster.

Here at home I am surrounded by cows. The landscape has been molded by the creation of fields & pasture for farming.

There are many stories around the fabled Glas Gaibhneach, one such is that this cow would fill with her milk any vessel, at one milking. Two women were wagering on whether a vessel could be found to outsize her capacity, and then one produced a sieve, the cow's milk caused seven overflooding streams to pour forth & created a river.

In some stories goddesses took on a bovine form and were associated with the rivers. Such is the case of the River Boyne, named after the goddess Bóinn, an earlier version of whose name – “Bóuvinda” – could be interpreted as “illuminated cow."
