This show on the satanic panic should be required listening rn! “satanic ritual abuse” is a mythology in America that has been used to channel fear and anger about real systemic problems toward folk devil scapegoats, and you can clearly see this still echoing through stuff like the Epstein files, Qanon, pizzagate etc. all the same rumors about baby cannibalism or whatever were flying around back in the 80s, the cases went to court and they never found any evidence or any mass baby graves (they looked! For a long time!). the podcast does a really good job of showing how and why real trauma like childhood sexual abuse got wrapped up in fantastical stories.
