my partner is really into woodturning so everyday I learn something new about wood. they made this out of flaming box elder, which is a rare type of wood that gets these red streaks from the tree’s immune response to stuff like injury, fungi, and beetles. The tree walls off decay to preserve the living tissues, and we get art!
