WHAT WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS
we’ve known for years that withdrawal is about as effective as male condoms—the failure rates are 4 percent and 3 percent, respectively. In a large national study, 18 percent of couples relying on withdrawal for a year experienced an unplanned pregnancy compared with 17 percent using condoms. In other words, despite decades of institutional and cultural slander, pulling out is actually fairly effective.
