This was my issue with the puppygirl essay too, it’s a really poor application of Marxist theory to justify a break-up. unemployed disabled people are by definition members of the surplus class, which have even less power than workers, they are not exploiting you in a political-economic sense no matter how abusive or manipulative they may be interpersonally.

The fallacy that the housewife is exploiting labor is so well-worn that it’s the butt of a joke. When we look at the household described in her essay, it is plain that it is the puppygirl who is the housewife, and the “narrator” is the de-gendered worker whose income the housewife is dependent upon. Whatever Ms. Knight intended with her essay, what she has essentially done is contrive a psuedo-Marxist analysis of why her bitch ex-wife never did the dishes on time.
