I interact with/annoy a lot of other writers on Substack. I interact with people writing on politics, geopolitics, economics, and a range of social issues.

NO ONE, except "doomers" is willing to SEE the Climate Crisis. Even as it is unfolding right in front of their faces and driving the intensifying Collapse.

I don't know if it's just that they have been hearing about Climate Change for so long that they tune it out. Or, if they are part of the 73% who don't think Climate Change will significantly affect them "in their lifetime".

Whatever the reason, it's extremely difficult to get people to even LOOK at the evidence. Much less get them to accept/believe what the evidence is saying.

The weird thing is that this has been THE YEAR that the 1% are waking up to "how bad" things actually have become. The report from S&P Global last week projecting a 50% chance +2.3°C of warming by 2040 is the THIRD financial services report out this year saying “Climate Change” is MUCH, MUCH WORSE than “expected”. All of them advising "high value" clients to basically "batten your hatches" and prepare for a +3°C world.

They aren't even trying to hide it. Because they know that no one is paying attention.

I'm afraid I have become fatalistic over what's about to happen in the US.

A fascist coup by the MAGAts seems almost inevitable now and it will probably be as UGLY and DESTRUCTIVE as those of us paying attention have been saying for years.

I just find it hard to care anymore.

It won't last, probably no more than 10 years (assuming no Civil War). By 2035 the Climate Crisis will be so BAD that the country will probably be falling apart.

The S&P report thinks there is a 50% chance of +2.3°C by 2040. That implies a Rate of Warming (RoW) of about +0.5°C PER DECADE.

I also stated recently that I thought the RoW could be as high as +0.5°C/decade. The evolving "in the know" consensus seems to think there is a 50% chance that's correct.

The implications of this are FUCKING DIRE.

That's

+2.0°C by 2035 - 20% die off of human population predicted by IFoA (Insurance Actuaries)

+2.5°C by 2045

+3.0°C by 2055 - 50% die off of human population predicted by IFoA

Factoring in some acceleration from burning forests, terrestrial land carbon sink failures, methane release from permafrost and LNG usage, etc.

+3°C by 2050 becomes not just possible but highly likely.

+3°C by 2050 is END of CIVILIZATION bad.

That's collapse of ocean fisheries.

Permanent (on a human timescale) loss of about 50% of existing farmland in the midlatitudes.

Droughts globally.

Massive destruction of infrastructure (roads, rail lines, bridges, sewage treatment, power plants, harbors, communications, food processing/distribution) from weather disasters happening everywhere AND the loss of ability to REPAIR that infrastructure.

We are ALREADY rapidly approaching the point where whatever infrastructure that "breaks" may NEVER be repaired or replaced.

70% population reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa (around 700 million dead) and an overall 50% reduction in the global population.

Famines globally and starvation even in places like the US and Europe.

Mass migration of billions of people seeking safety and food.

The collapse of global manufacturing and supply chains.

Pretty much the end of "nation states".

Over the next 25 years.

And it's TOO LATE to do anything about it. Other than to "prep" yourself and the ones you love to try and "pull through" the COLLAPSE and be survivors.

When you look at what's happening in the world from that context. Everything else seems like a "symptom" of what's coming.
