Victorian government has done something sensible...

Making public transport free for a month.

Just long enough to take a bit of pressure off households, commuters, and anyone currently watching the bowser like it’s a hostage video.

The point isn’t that everyone in Victoria can suddenly abandon their car and frolic onto a tram. Plenty of people can’t. Regional workers, tradies, shift staff, parents doing the school-and-work relay... they still need the car.

But if enough people who can use trains, trams and buses do so for free, it eases pressure where it can be eased. That’s fewer fares, fewer commuting costs, and a bit more room in the weekly budget while the global oil circus continues.

It’s not a silver bullet.

It’s just state government acting like government.

Which in 2026 feels almost exotic.

So yes, fair play to Jacinta on this one.
