On March 28th, 2006, T.I. released “King,” the project that clearly defined him as the King of The South. Let me set the stage:
Tip's first feature film, 'ATL', was just about to hit movie theatres, the song ‘What You Know’ was at the top of the Billboard charts, and he had just emerged victorious in a back-and-forth with Lil Flip in '05 (the catalyst for that situation being his claim that he was the King of the South)
King is essentially the halfway point between the T.I. who was on the come up & the T.I. who was on the verge of becoming a superstar. Because King was released the same day as ATL, this week’s SNOBHOP newsletter is a two-feature drop (check out the ATL piece, which is already live!)
Because double features are rare for SNOBHOP, the "King" retrospective is for paid supporters (for now).
Y’all know the vibes though! Hit the link below for a preview, and if you wanna check out the full piece along with the entire SNOBHOP archive, become a paid subscriber!
