Biotech silk is hitting the stores 💃

For their Spring 2026 collection, Balenciaga collaborated with AMSilk, a German biotech that produces silk yarn and coatings through E. coli bacteria.

The garments start at $ 1,990 USD and, on their end, AMSilk plans to produce 30 tons of silk this year.

Beyond sustainability and fashion, biotech can increase supply chain resilience and increase performance for custom applications in aircrafts, medical devices, cosmetics, and crop protection.
