I think it depends on what you want or need to do:

• use a SaaS AI via an API

• use a local AI

• AI fine tuning

• write a dummy AI to learn how it works (then you certainly need to know some of those subjects)

• write a production grade AI from scratch (advanced maths subjects)

and everything in between. Sometimes you just need the output, and sometimes you want to learn.

As developers we are mostly guilty of skipping the maths, however, even just by running AIs locally, it helped me understand some of the complexities behind them.
