Gartner just brought back the Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management — the first one in four years, after retiring it in 2022.

It's a well-researched report. 20 vendors. Rigorous criteria. Worth reading.

But there are two things missing from the evaluation that I think matter a lot for where the market is actually heading: open source and warehouse-native MDM.

I wrote about what the gaps reveal, why the criteria themselves create structural blind spots, and what a different architectural thesis for MDM looks like in 2026 — one where data never leaves your warehouse and the matching engine runs natively inside Databricks, Snowflake, or Fabric.
