One of the birth flowers for today is the ミヤコワスレ (Miyakowasure).
Its name, which means "forgetting the capital," comes from a 13th-century legend of Emperor Juntoku. It is said that while in exile, he found solace in this flower, which helped him forget his deep longing for his home in Kyoto.
In the language of flowers, it represents "a brief parting," "forgetting the sorrow of farewell," and "calm repose."
While its history carries a touch of sadness, the elegant purple petals blooming in the early summer light possess a quiet dignity that soothes the soul. It is a modest yet graceful flower that has long been cherished in Japan for its comforting presence.
