At my elementary school the preferred parody was:

“I believe I can fly / I got shot by the FBI / All I wanted was a chicken wing / From McDonald’s or Burger King”

We got told off repeatedly for singing this because “I Believe I Can Fly” is about how R. Kelly overcame being illiterate (by the way, R. Kelly is illiterate) and it was wrong of us kids to make fun of that. Mind you this was after he went on trial for peeing on a 14 year old girl.

I was remembering how ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ was the most beloved song among my peers for multiple years of elementary school. I looked it up and belatedly realized it’s by R. Kelly. Not the vibe I was looking for in my fond reminiscences
