March 12, 2026, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a previously convicted ISIS supporter, opened fire at Old Dominion University, killing 1 person and injuring 2 others before ROTC students subdued him. The FBI said it is treating the case as terrorism.
March 7, 2026, Ahmed Al-Shami and Omar Abdelrahman were charged after throwing homemade explosive devices at an anti-Mamdani protest crowd outside Gracie Mansion. Federal authorities said they were inspired by ISIS.
March 1, 2026, Ndiaga Diagne killed 3 people and injured 14 others when he opened fire on an outside patio at a bar in Austin. Investigators said he wore a “Property of Allah” sweatshirt, possible Islamist/ideological violence under investigation.
January 2, 2026, the FBI disrupted an alleged ISIS-inspired plan to carry out a New Year’s Eve attack. Prosecutors said the suspect wanted to act as a “soldier for ISIS” and had scoped out civilian targets, wanting to kill “more than twenty.”
June 1, 2025, Egyptian Mohamed Sabry Soliman threw Molotov cocktails at a group in Denver, Colorado marching for the release of Israeli hostages, yelling “Free Palestine.” One victim was burned to death, 15 others injured.
May 21, 2025, Elias Rodriguez shot and killed two Israeli Embassy staff members, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, at point blank range as they left an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. He stopped to reload, shooting Milgrim again as she tried to crawl away. He yelled “Free Palestine” during his attack. Received terrorism-related charges in addition to murder and hate-crime charges.
January 1, 2025, Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more. The FBI said an ISIS flag was found in the vehicle and publicly treated the attack as terrorism.
June 2025, the DOJ announced the extradition of Muhammad Shahzeb Khan to face charges over an alleged ISIS-inspired plan to carry out a mass shooting at a Jewish center in New York City. The plot was disrupted before it could be executed.
October 2024, DOJ charged Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi in an alleged ISIS-inspired Election Day terror plot. Prosecutors said he obtained firearms and ammunition and planned to attack inside the United States; he later pleaded guilty, and in November 2025 was sentenced to 15 years.
April 2024, Alexander Scott Mercurio was arrested after allegedly pledging allegiance to ISIS and planning an attack on churches in Coeur d’Alene. DOJ later said he pleaded guilty in October 2025.
May 2023, DOJ announced Sayfullo Saipov received eight life sentences plus 260 years for the 2017 ISIS-inspired truck attack in Manhattan that killed 8 people.
