I disagree. Democrats are perfectly capable of winning without non-college educated, culturally right-leaning men as long as it’s an otherwise good year. They did it in 2018 and 2020, and they came close this year.
The question is: Do you want to win more often by including people in your coalition who are prone to conspiracy theories and right-wing cultural causes — which means you have to focus more on the stupid things they care about — or do you win less often but with a smarter electorate that lets you do the things you want to do?
So far Democrats have opted for the latter. I don’t see an obvious reason why that’s the worse choice.
