I resonate with this (I've been thinking a lot about this C.S. Lewis quote about the atomic age, of which only the last paragraph is often quoted but the first two are also salient) but I also wonder if it might be an attempt (if maybe misguided or clumsy and yes, ultimately corrosive) at empathy and the difficulty of writing for broad audiences of people that you may or may not know.
As an example, hundreds of people I know have lost their jobs in the last six months, and it feels bad to celebrate about getting a new job without acknowledging that, and interpersonally a celebratory conversation about a job will and should go differently with someone who has one versus someone who doesn't. Unfortunately social media robs us of this interpersonal nuance.
