My real life hero.
In 2023 I was diagnosed with leukemia. In order to rid my body of cancer I went through some grueling rounds of chemotherapy.
7 straight days, 24 hours a day for the first round. It put me in remission.
The treatment required to keep me in remission was a stem cell transplant. That meant they had to search the data base of potential donors and see if they could find a match for me.
The search turned up a young college student who had swabbed his nose two years prior and sent his swab in to the database in case someday someone with leukemia ever matched with him and need his donated stem cells.
They contacted him, let him know he was a match and asked if he would be willing to go through with the process and donate his cells. He said yes.
In November of 2023 I received his stem cells and I am here today with my own boys, continuing to watch them grow, because of him.
Yesterday I got to meet my new hero, Adam, in person. I will write more about this in my newsletter soon, including how you too can get in the system.
But in a world where it seems we are all focused on that which divides us, I wanted to share that there are still plenty of selfless, amazing humans out there and Adam (center) is the proof.
