sometimes i wonder how many versions of myself i’ve outgrown without even noticing. i look back at old photos and remember the thoughts i used to carry, the dreams i thought would save me. it’s strange how you can live inside yourself every day and still not realize you’re evolving. it’s only when you look back that you realize how far you’ve come, how many lives you’ve already lived in the same skin.

It’s been weird to see half of my friends and colleagues with physics degrees be on team reality from the beginning and the other half be on team lockdown. Never quite understood what caused the initial split. It was not necessary to have had the requisite background in vaccines, viruses, and epidemiology to have been able to synthesize the data as it came in. One just needed to go in with a distrust in the authorities own skills and motives.
As a “critical” cultural medical anthropologist, I have been intrigued at this divide. Yes, I believe Gato is correct about the arcaneness of biological understanding beyond the reach of many, abd that lead untrained folks to accept the narrative. But it goes beyond that as well to a level of trust in authorities and degree of sensitization (or rather far too often, desensitization to pressured efforts to pushing specific ic narratives, castigating earnest clinicians developing early treatment…
