In theory, I’m a plotter - but… No matter how much time I put into plotting my story, I never seem to follow the route I’ve set out. And I can’t believe that’s not the same for every author.
A plot doesn’t work like SatNav. You don’t have some nice lady telling you to do a u-turn whenever you deviate from the route. You see an interesting landmark in the distance, and off you go. You get to a fork in the road, and toss a coin. And before you know it, you’re a hundred miles off course; have rattled off dozens of pages of a story you weren’t in; and have no idea how to get back. And probably have no desire to get back. It’s nice here!
Or, maybe it’s just me?
